I don’t want to minimize the need for coping skills, how to deal with cancer and your treatment. Those skills are essential in your struggle. But hope skills are the game changer. Dr. Groopman, cancer specialist, hematologist-oncologist and professor at Harvard Medical School, says that hopeful people are healthier people and have a better chance of beating cancer.
Coping is how people deal with cancer. Hope is how people heal. Hope is an actual phyisiological experience that can affect whether we live or die, whether we thrive or simply survive.
Hoping skills include identification, imagination, and introspection. But hope is more than a frame of mind. It is an action towards the most meaninfgul future, whatever you decide that may be.
